Mark Hill - Sexy Waves & Curls Pro Magic Hair Wand - Hair Curler - Review

I decided to buy this Mark Hill Sexy Waves & Curls Pro Magic Hair Wand around a year ago now. My decision was based on borrowing my sisters identical wand to try out. The results were the best I have ever experienced from any curling wand.

I purchased the wand in the plain black design, however there are many different animal prints to choose from - my sisters wand is the leopard print design.

I bought my wand from Boots for £27.49 which is a great price considering most decent curling wands are £40-£120!!

I have always had trouble with curling my hair as I have no choice to straighten it with GHD's after washing, before curling because my hair is naturally very frizzy. It is always difficult to re-style hair once it has been set with a high temperature straightening iron or curler however I found that this wand had no trouble in curling the hair after it had been straightened.

The box includes the wand, wand gloves and a hair style bible.

The gloves I have never used as I cant seem to get the hang of using them however I have experienced very painful burns on my hands because I haven't used them.

The style bible wasn't very useful in my opinion. It purely teaches you which way to wrap the hair around the wand.

Wand specifications:
  • Ionic for super shiny, frizz free results
  • Ceramic barrel
  • Heats up to 200°C
  • Variable heat settings
  • Auto shut off
  • LCD display screen
  • 3m salon length cord
  • High speed heat-up

I have had no trouble with getting the hang of using this wand obviously it takes a few practices to get to grips with a new curler but its really simple once you've become adjusted to its weight and heat settings.

I'm a huge fan of the smooth barrel, there's nothing I cant stand more than ridged barrels as they leave kinks in the curls. I also really like the width of the barrel - its just the right size to create natural sized ringlets - when the ringlets are too small, this can create a fake appearance.

The design of the wands handle makes it really easy to grip and therefore less accidents happen and you're left with better curls. The feet to stand the wand up on surfaces without causing damage to the surface doesn't appear to work very well. I've found that because of the angle of the wire and the weight of the wand, 9 times out of 10 the heated part of the wand will fall and rest on the surface, potentially causing damage.

The curling wand has a LCD display and buttons to adjust the heat settings depending on your hair type which I think is a brilliant idea as there's no point in using more heat than needed and ruining your hair - everybody's hair is different so this is suitable for all hair types.

I personally always use some form heat protector before using my curling wand, partly because it helps prevent any heat damage to my hair and secondly because it helps the curls stay in for longer. I always finish with a small amount of firm hold hair spray to keep the curls for longer - too much hair spray will harden the curls and they will not look natural!!

I have used this wand on my hair extensions. The only problem with this is that the curls seem to want to stick with the extensions and it requires a lot of straightening on a high heat to remove the curls once you want to return to straight locks!
