So currently I have orange hair however this choice of colour came with a lot of trialling different hair colourants.
The first colourant I tried out was a Garnier Olia dye in Intense Copper 7.40 (£6.99) which on the box was far from copper and was very much more of an orange tone. Brilliant!! Just what I was looking for... right!?
Wrong!!
The dye comes as all Olia dyes do; cardboard box, the Olia bottle, a tube of developer, a tube of colourant, a tube of conditioner and gloves.
I've never been happy with the use of a third bottle for mixing the contents of the tube of colourant and developer...it just seems like a waste of plastic and packaging to hold it.
The design of the box I personally really like. There is a corrugated circle to pop out to hold your Olia bottle when in use to avoid dye getting onto and therefore staining surfaces.
The scent of this shade of dye is the same as previous Olia dyes I have used; Slightly floral, not at all chemically and definitely not over powering. Over all a pleasant scent.
I have used Olia dyes in the past and have been very impressed with the product as a whole. This colour however is a different story.
As the colour indicator on the box indicate that the lighter the hair, the brighter the outcome would be, I chose to strip my black hair down to a blonde shade before colouring as I wanted my hair to be as orange as I could get it.
I applied the dye to my blonde hair and within about 5 minutes I'd become worried. The dye had turned a very dark orangey brown colour.
After the 30 minutes of developing time, I quickly rinsed and washed the dye from my hair to settle my panic.
So far so good, the colour looked okay when my hair was wet... and then I dried and straightened it.
The colour was extremely patchy. Around my fringe area, the hair was a redish tone whilst the rest of my hair was a washed out yellowy orange tone with patches of more vibrant areas dotted all over.
Nothing like the colour indicated on the box!!
I decided to leave my hair to rest for a few days and just grinned and bared the bodge job. Over the week I washed my hair just 3 times WITH colour protecting shampoo/conditioner and the bodge job got a lot worse.
My hair after these 3 washes was almost back to the blonde colour that I started with originally but incredibly patchy. Here's the evidence;
As you can see, the colour in my natural roots has vanished completely and the rest of my hair is far from orange; more of a dark blonde colour with just a tint of ginger...after just 3 washes!! I wish I'd have taken a photo of the colour after it had been dyed, but I had no idea how much it would fade so quickly.
I have nothing good to say about this product except from the smell of it and the little corrugated circle on the box. Definitely don't waste £6.99 of your hard earnt cash on this product. Never experienced a hair dye anywhere near this bad. Very disappointed is an understatement.

About two days ago I used it, too. I'm with dark blonde hair and never dyed it before (and I'll never do it again). And the same thing happened to me. Do you have any idea how long should I wait till the color fades?
ReplyDeleteThis dye fades really quickly however you probably wont be able to remove all the colour through just washing :( Try washing your hair with washing up liquid to remove more dye. To remove it fully, i reccomend using a colour remover/stripper rather than bleach which isn't great for your hair; the best one i've used is Scott Cornwall's, however this will remove colour pigment from your natural hair so redying a similar shade to your natural colour will more than likely be your only option afterwards.
ReplyDeleteAt the moment my hair isn't at its most healthy condition so I wouldn't like to risk with colour remover. Even though, I'll keep in mind your advice. Thanks ^^
DeleteI tend to leave this dye in a bit longer with this colour because my hair likes to do it's own thing. So nomally on the packaging it would tell you leave it in for 30mins but since my hair takes forever to do anything I tend to leave it for an 45mins to an hour. The first time I used this product I followed the instructions with barely any results now I leave it in for longer it does what it's supposed to do. I wouldn't be too alarmed at the darkness either since it'll come out when you rinse it. Also because my hair doesn't like to keep colour as well , go for a treatment at your local salon to prolong the dye before the first wash. But make sure you allowed the dye to settle into your hair for a couple of days after dyeing.
ReplyDeleteRed colours always fade faster then any other colour, doesn’t matter what red coloured you put in, there are special wash and care instructions if your going red, I’ve been a redhead most of my life with box dye, it’s high upkeep.
