Rimmel London - Glam Eyes - Black Waterproof Gel Eye Liner - Review

As summer is fast approaching us (not that we'd know it with the snow we've been having over the past couple of weeks!!) I thought I'd do a review on one of my holiday must haves!

Rimmel Glam Eyes Waterproof Gel Liner in black is one of the most important beauty products I pack when going on holiday.

Last year when I was jetting off to Mallorca for 2 weeks, I suddenly realised a few days before whilst packing that none of my makeup was water proof and this could be a problem in the pool/at the beach!!

I did a little bit of research into waterproof eye liners on the net and this in my opinion was the best one that I could afford.

I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money for an eye liner that would be used for just the 2 weeks that I was away, so this liner seemed like a good buy at just £6.49 from Boots. The price of this liner was slightly more expensive than other non waterproof eyeliners on the market yet this was the only waterproof liner I could find in the whole of Boots!!

I wanted to try a gel liner, as I was used to using a cake eye liner which involved using a short haired pointed brush - I'm not the biggest fan of the long haired brushes included in liquid eye liners as I cant get the line as precise as I would like.

My first impressions when getting the liner home were that the brush is ideal - short haired and quite stiff. I also liked the shape of the bottle and how the brush was attached to the lid - this meant no messiness when you've finished with it and leave it on the side/with the rest of your brushes without cleaning it!

I did  at first feel that the amount of liner in tub is not a huge amount and probably wouldn't last long. How wrong I was!! I've had this liner for 8 months now and I've hardly used any!! - Bare in mind that I use this 4/5 days a week on my water line and 2/3 days a week on my upper eyelid as well! I'm certain to say that this liner will last me until the end of 2013!!

The liner is very pigmented so there is only need for one coat of liner.

However because of the consistency of this liner, it does take a while to dry - a few minutes at the most to dry completely. If you don't allow the liner to dry you WILL end up with a black smudge across the upper lid/in the crease.
Personally if I don't have the time to wait for the liner to dry, I will cover it with a layer of black/transparent eyeliner however this then wont be waterproof.

Being on holiday was the biggest test for this liner as I was in and out of the pool and sea all day everyday for 2 weeks.

I was very pleased with how this liner lasted in the water. The liner didn't fade an awful lot, there was slight fade in how pigmented it looked but at no point did it look very faded. When the liner was wet however it was prone to smudging if knocked or rubbed with enough force.

I have seen a lot of people review this product and have been disappointed in it because of how it has transferred itself on to their upper lid. A few of these people I have noticed that they have stated they have oily eyelids and I can understand that this would be a problem. However there are a few reviews that have wrongly reviewed this product due to the fact they have moaned about the drying time on this product and then gone on to say that it has smudged all over their lid because it wasn't dry.
