So once again I found myself in boots buying nail varnish...with a good enough reason though!! Celebrating my return to uni!!
I really really really wanted a metalic royal blue varnish but I knew my beloved models own didn't have one in any of their current collections. So I did a bad deed and cheated with Maybelline NY and bought their colour/color show in Ocean Blue.
This varnish cost me a teeny tiny £2.99 which is a fair bit cheaper than models own varnishes which are £5 each however they do have almost a third more varnish in the bottle than the Maybelline varnishes.
I hate it. Simple as that. I will never be cheating on models own ever again.
When I applied the varnish, I found that the consistency was far too runny and therefore wasn't very pigmented. The image below shows my nails (before cleaning up) with 2 layers of varnish applied.
The varnish is very translucent and doesn't resemble the colour of the bottled varnish unless 5/6 coats are applied. It starts as a blue similar to electric blue and only gets slightly darker per coat.
The varnish didn't last a great deal of time either. It was only a couple of hours after applying the varnish that I started noticing chips at the top of my nails.
The only things I liked about this varnish was how easy it was to apply (probably because of how runny it is) and its drying time. Seriously, it took less than 5 minutes for each coat and the coats didn't make the coat underneath gloopy again so the 5/6 coats I applied only took around 20 minutes to do!!
