Milk and Honey - Rupi Kaur - Book Review

I bought this book after seeing a poem from it tweeted on twitter. The poem related so much to me and my situation that I couldn't not buy the book. I'm so glad I did.

The aesthetics of the book are very 'tumblr'. The doodles and sketches within the book illustrate the poems incredibly without looking like traditional book illustrations.

This book is a book of poems which are themed around love, sex, feminism, the female body and self-worth.

Reading through these short poems, I felt the hurt that Kaur felt, I truly empathised with her experiences, at times I felt empowered and uplifted, healed and grounded, however other times I felt upset, raw, heartbroken and fearful. All of these emotions were very real. Kaur has written as though it could have been written by my own heart and mind; she writes about topics that all readers will relate to at some point in their lives.

I would definitely recommend this book to be read by all, no matter what gender, particularly those who have experienced tough times with their self-worth, mental health and have come through difficult relationships.

Rupi Kaur deserves so much more recognition for her work. It is nothing less than beautiful.
