Garnier Olia - Intense Red 6.60 - Hair Dye/Colour - Review

After reading a lot of mixed reviews on this hair dye, it is safe to say I was sceptical about using this particular product.

I'm usually a Schwarzkopf XXL hair dye girl and never had any trouble with it. However I struggled to find a red hair dye that I liked in their range that actually came out the colour that it claimed on the box (I had a mix of different orange shades with the colour I had chosen). So I decided to give Olia a go after seeing it advertised on a TV advert.

I decided to go for the Intense Red over the Deep red as I wanted my hair to be vibrant and from past experiences with hair dye, realised that the colour nearly always comes out slightly darker than what's on the box.

I bought my dye from boots as its close to where I live and it was on offer (£5.99 instead of £6.99). However I do think that the original price of £6.99 is a teeny bit steep considering I normally pay £8 for 2 Schwarzkopf dyes.

I was fairly impressed with the design of the box and also the main mixing bottle. The box had got a corrugated circle on the back to push out and would hold your bottle when pouring the colour and developer into. The mixing bottle is exactly the right shape!! There is nothing I cannot stand more than wasting a lot of hair dye because its trapped in the bottle!! This shape ensured that the vast majority was able to come out and be used.

The gloves in this box are great too!! I cant stand the gloves that are far too big!! I don't have teeny hands, but they all seem to be huge on me!! These gloves were big but not so big that I didn't have full control over what I was doing.

One of the things about this product that I wasn't so impressed with was the use of a third bottle. I'm not a massive eco friendly person, but I didn't understand why the mixing bottle couldn't hold one of the liquids therefore saving an extra tube - this could be why the dye is slightly more expensive than I'd usually pay.

I've seen a lot of reviews which state that there wasn't enough dye to cover the whole of their hair - I personally think there was more dye in this product than most dyes I have tried in the past. However I only have shoulder length hair and could imagine that if it were 4/5 inches longer then I probably would only just have enough - But anybody with long hair would have to use 2 packs of dye with any brand so I'm not entirely sure why people are making such a big deal out of it.

I dyed my hair from an orangey/blond colour as I stripped my previous hair dye out of my hair using Colour b4. I can safely say that the colour of my dyed hair matched the colour on the box almost exactly and I'm extremely pleased with it. It is a very even coverage and is a block colour (I add highlights with different colours added to my extensions so this doesn't bother me)

The adverts for this particular dye, push the selling point as that it is supposedly better for your hair as it contains no ammonia or damaging products and uses just flower oils and "good" chemicals to colour your hair. I do not feel that this product has made my hair any healthier than it was before using it, however the conditioner that comes in the box is amazing and leaves your hair silky soft.

This colour does fade despite it being permanent! Everybody knows that red hair dye is prone to fading. I'm pleased with how little this dye has faded and after 4 washes it still blends with my hair extensions which were a perfect match before washing.

Over all I am very pleased with this product. I just wish Garnier had been more thoughtful about waste and about how they market and price this dye.
