Hunter Boots/Wellies - Original Gloss (Cocoa) - Review

image
This year,I bought myself some hunter wellies (Gloss - Cocoa) for Christmas.
I've not worn these boots as much as I could, I tend to wear them when walking the pup and to and from my car at work but here's my opinion so far!

So far i'm not as impressed as I hoped I would be with these wellies. The price of these particular boots are £85 which I thought was reasonable considering they're a 'designer' label in the wellington boot world. However I've had wellies from garden centres for less than a 1/4 of this price and have been more satisfied with them.
  • Firstly, the colour of the boots is very different to how they are displayed on the Hunter website. This particular colour on the website looks more of a light chocolate brown colour, whereas when I received them I was surprised to see they were more of a pastel chocolate brown.
  • Secondly I ordered these boots in my usual size 7 and have found that they come slightly bigger in the foot area and not wide enough around the calf. I have considered that the boots are designed for 'dirty work' and the tightness is to stop mud/water from entering, however I haven't got the widest calves and they're almost uncomfortably tight! After a while it gives the sensation of a lack of blood to your feet!! This also makes it really tough to tuck in jeans/leggings so I end up with gathering above the top of the boots and makes them incredibly hard to take off. The foot size I have considered that people will be wearing these boots in thicker socks as they're designed for the outside world, however I have been wearing them with fleecy socks and still have far too much room!! - Both of these issues with the boots make them very unsuitable to drive in and not very comfortable to wear out walking.
  • Another thing I have found with these boots is that I am getting a lot of blisters with them. I don't walk for hours on end with them, sometimes it only takes a 15 minute walk around the block and I have a new blister. The blisters are usually on the backs of my ankles but I have had them on the sides of my feet as well.
However there are a few good points to these boots.
  • They look really nice in my opinion, despite the colour not being what I expected.
  • Hunter offer free delivery on orders over £75 (which is 90% of their website)
  • The tread on the boots is sufficient enough for snow and ice however you still have to be careful!!
  • They're really easy to clean! You can just wipe them down with a cloth or soak them in water.
  • So far, no colour fade!!
I have heard rumours that these boots do not last as long as you'd expect with an expensive brand. I have had no problems with soles cracking so far (I've probably not worn them enough yet), however I do not doubt that these people are wrong and will be looking out for it.

Overall I am not a 'fan' of Hunter boots. I will not be purchasing another pair when I get bored of this colour or I wear them out completely! I'd rather spend a fraction of the money and be comfortable in my non-designer wellies!!
