Bourjois Volumizer Black Mascara
I bought this mascara from the clothes show in December 2011 for £6/7 however it retails on the high street at around £10/11 which is about mid range price compared to other mascaras on the market.
This mascara is like one I've never used before due to its 2 step application. The lid hold 2 brushes/wands that link into each other.
The first wand is used for the first coat of mascara to potentially separate and spread out the lashes and coat in the black colour mascara ready for volumizing.
The second brush is made up of the first brush and an additional outer layer to make it much thicker. This layer of mascara is to make the lashes a lot thicker.
When using this mascara I found that it made my lashes very thick after just the 2 layers as its such a pigmented mascara, however it wasn't very good at curling my lashes upwards so they didn't look any longer. It is because my lashes weren't any longer but thicker that this mascara made my lashes look more stumpy rather than sexy. The mascara is very easy to apply and I didn't have trouble with any bumps and clumps. I didn't have any trouble with how long this mascara lasted either - I could wear it for up to 12 hours and it hadn't started crumbling off.

Maybelline The Colossal Volum' Express Black Mascara
I have been using this mascara since it first came out when I was about 18 and no matter what mascara I try I always seem to come back to this one in the end.
This mascara costs £7.19 at Boots which I think is an extremely good price given that brands that are considered 'better' are £15+.
The mascara wand is a simple slightly curved brush. The stiffness and spacing of the bristles on this brush are very good at separating the lashes.
When using the mascara, I noticed that it was very good at making my lashes longer and more curved. However I don't think that the mascara was quite pigmented enough to add the volume and thickness that most mascaras are capable of producing, therefore it took 3/4 coats of mascara to make my lashes look thicker.
I didn't have any problems with clumping of this mascara and I found that it lasted all day without starting to crumble and break off my lashes.
