To remove the purple hair dye from my hair so that I could dye my hair red I decided to use Colour B4. I had seen it advertised on TV and read a few online reviews which led me to decide it was probably the best hair dye remover on the market.
I chose to use the Extra Colour B4 as the purple colour in my hair was fairly dark and I had been dying it that shade for almost a year.
This product boasts that it uses no ammonia or bleach so I expected it to be safe to use on my not so brilliant condition hair.
I bought this in boots for £11-12 which I thought was fairly expensive for a hair product. There were cheaper products that did the same thing but because I had never heard of the brand and didn't trust Boots own brand I decided I'd stick to something I knew a little about.
The package contains 3 containers:
1. Activator
2. Remover
3. Buffer
I was pleased that there wasn't an additional mixing bottle as I don't agree with the need to add extra packaging and waste. The bottle for mixing I liked as it was shaped so that the majority of the product could run out of the nozzle without having to vigorously shake it.
The instructions provided were very clear and informative.
The gloves included weren't the worst gloves I've used but they were still far too big for my hands.
Once the activator and remover were mixed together the solution created smelt unpleasant but nothing unbearable that some of the other reviews I've read have made out - I have smelt worse hair bleaching kits!!
The whole process of removing the hair dye takes about an hour and a half (including the buffering stages) which I found quite tedious as I'm quite impatient but it had to be done. This product removed all of the purple dye and even the natural colouring from my roots and left me with mixed blonde/golden/light copper tones. This patchiness wasn't so much of a problem with me because I was later going to dye my hair a much darker red colour however if you were thinking of staying quite fair, this could be a bit of a problem and I would advise to use another box of Colour B4.
After the whole process was complete my hair felt horribly dry (worse than when it had been bleached 7 times in a row!) and the texture was a bit like the elasticity of spaghetti. None the less I dried it off and straightened it and was surprised that it didn't feel any weaker than before I'd used this product. My hair however still didn't smell very pleasant - it was this that made me come to the decision of washing it a couple more times before I dyed my hair red (the instructions state that all the product must be out of the hair before re-dying - the smell told me there was probably still residue in my hair).
Final Scores:
Price: 3/5
Packaging/Bottles: 5/5
Patchiness: 3/5
