Another hair dye that I had used for a fairly long time in the past is Schwarzkopf XXL Ultra Violet. I used to buy this from boots where it was usually on offer and I could get a box for around £4.
Before I started using this dye, my hair was in an awful condition due to an excessive amount of bleaching.
The packaging of this product was no different to the majority of other branded hair dyes on the market. It contains a plastic mixing bottle containing the developing solution which I liked as it saves adding an extra bottle to do all the mixing in. In the box there is a tube of the colour, which I found fairly easy to squeeze the entire contents out of. There is a teeny tiny tube of conditioner included, this I felt could have been a bit bigger as it only just covered all of my shoulder length hair so I'd dread to think how people with longer hair would cover all of their hair.
The gloves included with this dye I hate with a passion. They are far too big and don't cling enough to your fingers. I don't have small hands, if anything I would say my hands were slightly bigger than average and I was finding that because the gloves were too big that the dye was getting trapped in the creases.
I wasn't best pleased with the shaping of the mixing/developer bottle in this dye. I found that because of the shape of the bottle it was hard to grip with dye on the gloves and also that a lot of the dye became stuck in the bottle nearer the end which meant I had to cut the bottle open to get the remaining product out.
I found that there was enough dye in the bottle to cover all of my hair however if my hair was a couple of inches longer then I think it would become a bit sparse in areas.
I found that this dye helped to improve the condition of my hair - it was much stronger, softer and shinier from the first dye.
I had dyed my hair from my previous blue hair but underneath the blue was a bleach blonde colour. I was advised by a hairdresser to remove the blue dye from my hair before dying it this colour as it could lead to my purple hair being patchy - I partly ignored this advice, and just waited until my hair was very faded (using fairy liquid instead of shampoo helped bring the blue out quicker but not completely)
Despite ignoring the advice given to me from a hairdresser, the dye hadn't left any patches and I was extremely pleased with the outcome. The colour of the dye had left my hair almost identical to the colour on the box. It had also lightened my roots (ash brown) which meant there were no patches at all!!
I was pleasantly surprised at the fade rate with this dye. I dyed my hair every 4-6 weeks with this dye purely because of my roots coming through, I would left it longer if it wasn't down to my roots as the dye had hardly faded at all. I found that each time I dyed my hair the less it would fade - Which is the case with most natural coloured dyes but not always with purples/reds.
