I have been wanting to quit smoking for months now but every time I get a few days into the swing of going cold turkey, I have an anxiety attack or I experience something that stresses me out which of course always leads me back too the shop to buy another pack of ciggys.
I heard from a few friends that e cigarettes have helped them to cut out actual cigarettes altogether so I thought I'd give it a shot.
I didn't do the greatest amount of research into brands and types of e cigarette as after about 5 minutes of looking online I became very aware of how HUGE this market is. The brands and types valued between £20 and £100 for a starter cigarette, and there seemed to be all shapes and sizes with a variety of LED lights to chose from.
I decided that as a couple of my friends had tried 10 Motives and had good results, that this was the brand and type I would use.
To set me up all I really needed was the rechargeable e cigarette which is priced at a reasonable £13.99 with £3 p&p. However I decided to get everything I would need to keep me satisfied for the next couple of months. I purchased a recharge pack (which is like a cigarette packet that holds refills and spare batteries and charges them at the same time!), along with 3 packs of refill cartridges; Cherry, Watermelon and Blueberry.
The parcel came the next day despite only paying for first class post, not next day delivery. The packaging was just an unmarked jiffy bag which I was relieved about as my family aren't aware that I smoke!!
I am going to break this review down into a separate section for each item.
This set is all you need to get yourself started, so if you're unsure about this brand or this type of e cigarette then by buying just this you won't be wasting any money if it's not for you.
Like I stated above, I bought three flavours of cartridge refills; Blueberry, Watermelon and Cherry. These come in a pack of 5 which cost £6.99. The website says each cartridge is the equivalent of 25 regular cigarettes based on the average use of 10 drags per cigarette. However I have found that that they are probably only the equivalent to a pack of 20, not that I'm complaining, a pack of these cartridges is therefore the equivalent of 5 packs of regular cigarettes for £6.99!!
The flavour of the cartridges isn't amazing but isn't unpleasant. They all taste of what they are supposed to taste of (the 3 flavours and the single tobacco cartridge I have tried), however I expected them to be sweeter and less artificial tasting. If I had to recommend one of the 3 flavours I have purchased, it would definitely be Cherry as the taste is the most pleasant and realistic.
I thought I'd purchase a spare battery just in case and for when my battery is charging. This item is £9.99 which is a fair price for what it is. Unlike the rechargeable e cigarette, the spare battery doesn't come with the USB charger or a cartridge, it purely is the battery. Again the battery comes with a little charge in it but it won't last you more than around 20 drags.
The last thing on my shopping list was the hand e-charging case priced at a fairly expensive £17.99. The website is extremely confusing when it comes to this product as it leads you to believe its a starter pack including a rechargeable e cigarette, a spare battery and a number of refill cartridges. This is not the case if you read all of the description; very sneaky!! Even the packaging of the case leads you to believe that its a full starter set.
However this is not the case (excuse the pun). It literally is just the case. The case has slots for 5 refill cartridges, a charge slot and a slot for the spare battery. I personally thought there would be a slot for a made up e cigarette i.e. the battery connected to a cartridge so that you don't need to be fiddling about putting one together when on the move, however this isn't the case again which I am slightly disappointed in.
The case takes 2.5 hours to charge and from then on will charge 4 batteries before it needs charging up again. The batteries take no longer than an hour to fully charge when charging in this case. The charger is a USB connecter so you will need some kind of computer or a wall plug with a USB connection.
As I have stated before, this product isn't necessary but its handy for when you're out and about.
Obviously there are some bits that will get some getting used to. The e cigarette is fairly heavy and I've found that I can't let go of it when taking a drag as I would a regular cigarette. The LED light at the top of the cigarette lights blue when taking a drag and flashes when the battery is almost empty. The vapour at first irritated my throat slightly and made it feel as if I needed to drink but this soon stopped after just a few days. I've found that the slower and deeper the drags are the more vapour is created and the better the throat hit however this takes a little time to get used to as my method of smoking cigarettes is shallower and quicker. When inhaling the vapour, very little is exhaled but if the vapour is kept in the mouth, a thick smoky exhalation is produced and is very easy to perform any regular smoke tricks you may have picked up with regular cigarettes.
As I mentioned at the top, I bought this e cigarette to potentially quit smoking. I haven't smoked a regular cigarette for over a week now and by using the 10 motives e cigarette I haven't felt I needed to. However I do feel that I have been using the e cigarette a lot more often than I would have smoked without it but I personally think that's down to the excitement of having a "new toy" and the fact its legal to smoke it almost anywhere!! This novelty I'm sure will wear off within the month and hopefully I'll start to cut down on this method and kick the habit completely.
Thanks for sharing the info, keep up the good work going.... I really enjoyed exploring your site. good resource... online headshop
