You've seen the adverts... you know, the Italian one with the woman constantly smiling!? Well in case you missed the ending, these adverts are for toothpaste!!
Say hello to Blanx, the light activated tooth care range that whitens your teeth!!
Blanx claim to be able to provide products that whiten teeth within 2 weeks (not fully) without the use of bleaching and any kind of abrasive but by a substance within the products that reacts with light!! Crazy talk I know but I was so excited to try this out for myself!!
I decided to try out the white shock toothpaste and the gel pen to start off with as I don't really use mouthwash on a regular basis and the toothpaste that comes with the built in light was sold out.
I bought the white shock tooth paste (minus the built in LED light) from Tesco and it was priced at £5 which I guess is slightly more expensive than your average toothpaste but from what I could see its slightly cheaper than some top end whitening toothpastes.
The toothpaste is a blue colour (could this be why teeth appear whiter?? - blue and yellow cancel each other out). The flavour of the paste is mint but a very mild mint, nothing too over powering. When using the toothpaste I noticed that the paste doesn't froth as much as any other toothpaste I have used and has a slightly 'very very very fine sand' like texture to it before brushing it onto your teeth.
The gel pen I feel is a bit of a gimmick to make people spend more money on the Blanx products. The gel pen is priced at £10 which is extremely expensive for what you get!! The idea behind it is that you can carry it around with you in your bag/pocket and top up your teeth whitening during the day. The mechanism to release the gel is similar to a lipgloss; twist the bottom and it pushes the product to the brush which is identical to some lipglosses on the market.
The instructions say this should be done just twice a day for the best results so I chose to use this product after I'd eaten (not as a substitute for brushing my teeth!!)
There is a slight metallic flavour to this product and I felt it would be more suitable if it had a mint flavour to it.

Included with the gel pen (not the toothpaste!) is a piece of card with a scale of different shades of cream yellow and white. This card has cut out diamond shapes so you can see your teeth through the card to match your tooth colour to a colour on the Blanx scale.
The numbers of the shades are written backwards on the card so that in a mirror they can be read easily.
Down to the knitty gritty!!
I have been using these products for 2/3 weeks now and can honestly say that I have noticed an improvement on the colour of my teeth (not that they were too bad to start with!). I haven't been going around smiling constantly like the woman on the advert and haven't been exposing my teeth to light anymore than I normally would if I wasn't using these products. Brilliant!!
I don't think I have any complaints about the toothpaste. Its great in every way possible although I wish it frothed a teeny bit more but over all it gives me lovely clean teeth.
The gel pen I feel slightly differently about. Its not necessary to have this product and I feel it is an over priced gimmick. Secondly the taste as I said before is quite metallic and I feel it should be a mint flavour. The brush gets covered in saliva and its pretty minging so its tough to decipher how much product is actually on your teeth and I feel like I'm wiping tonnes of product away when I clean the brush.
I'm not a huge fan of the excessive packaging for these products. I am aware that the vast majority of toothpastes come in a cardboard box...but why!? Is there a need?? The instructions and ingredients could easily be printed on the tube rather than empty space. However with the gel pen something needs to keep the scale card and the pen together so a box is more understandable.
The instruction manual is in about 4 different languages and there is one manual for all products so its quite confusing to find the correct language and then the directions that you need for the product you own!!
So overall, great products to whiten your teeth harmlessly and fairly quickly. Slightly expensive on the gel pen side of things but the toothpaste is a great price for the results.
Blanx recommend using a course every 2/3 months but I myself am going to keep using the products until I get the results I want and then every 2/3 months.
Go buy buy buy!! Definitely recommend these products (especially the toothpaste) to people who want whiter teeth without the damage of other methods and aren't expecting a result over night!!
Thanks for your review about White Shock Toothpaste & Gel Pen. I am using Colgate Optic White Platinum, white and radiant toothpaste. Really, it's working great. Everybody try to use this product for bright smile and whitening.
ReplyDeleteI have seen this toothpaste advertised on TV. I am always looking for toothpastes that whiten teeth so I may have to go purchase this one!!
