Cinnamon Apple Rings - Recipe

Yayyy!! My first recipe!!

After seeing my friend post a photo of Cinnamon Apple Rings on his Facebook wall, I decided I needed to hunt down a recipe and make some myself!!

Cinnamon Apple Rings are the sweet equivalent to Onion Rings!! If you're not a fan of Cinnamon, skip the Cinnamon steps and there is no need to replace it with anything.

This is a really easy super quick recipe which is fun, fun, fun and great for the kids to join in with... plus the final product tastes amazing!!

A lot of the recipes I found contained things that the average person wouldn't have in their kitchen cupboard or fridge. So I've come up with my own!!

Here's how to make my yummy Cinnamon Apple Rings!!

Ingredients;

200ml Water
1 large Egg
1/4 tsp. Salt
1/4 tsp. Baking Powder
4 heaped tbsp. Plain Flour
4 large Apples (Golden Delicious/Granny Smith work best)
1 1/2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
2 tbsp. Sugar
A good glug of Vegetable Oil

Start by peeling your Apples!! I've seen a lot of people leave the skins on but I've found through trial and error that the batter doesn't stick to the skin. Boo!!
Slice the Apples into approximately 1-2cm slices and cut the core from the middle to create your Apple Rings.

Now its time to mix your batter. Whisk your Egg, Salt, Baking Powder and 1tsp. of Cinnamon together in either a bowl or jug and then whisk in your water. Once this is all whisked together, mix/whisk in the Flour until you have a thick, smooth consistency.

The next step is to heat your oil. You'll need enough oil to fill the frying pan to approximately 2cm.
The heat should be slightly cooler than the heat you'd fry an egg at to prevent your batter from cooking too quickly.

Here's the best bit!! Dip your apple slices into the batter mix and then pop them into the oil. The oil should cover the whole of the apple slice to start with but because they start to float, you will need to flip them after a few minutes.
If like me you want your slices really battered, you can remove the slices, and repeat this process again.  Each slice should only take between 5-7 minutes to completely crisp up.
I've found it easier to do 5-6 slices at a time.

Once the batter has turned a nice golden brown crispy colour, remove the slices from the oil ad either place on a plate or a kitchen paper towel to soak up some of the excess oil.

Mix your tbsp. of Sugar and remaining 1/2 tsp. of Cinnamon in a bowl to create your Cinnamon Sugar coating.
When cooled slightly to handle dip both sides of your slices in the Cinnamon Sugar and serve asap!!
