Buying/Selling second hand clothes - Depop vs. Vinted

I have finally manned up and decided to empty out my wardrobes and draws.

I have a stupid amount of clothes/shoes/jewellery that I never wear, have never worn or still has the tags on!!!

I've gathered a lot of pieces over the years thinking "I'll wear that someday" or thought "its a bit tight now bit when I slim down..." and I know for a fact all us girlie's have/had things in our wardrobes for the same reasons.

Truth is, my wardrobes and draws are so full now that I can't close them without force and I wear the same 5/6 outfits all the time...so WHY am I hoarding!?!?!?

I needed a quick and easy way to sell all my unwanted clothes which wasn't hoing to cost me a packet in fees *cough* Ebay *cough*.

I asked a quick question on my Insta (@FayeARooney/@forgetmoiknotsig) and the majority of the answers to resolve my clothes selling issue were to download either Depop or Vinted. So I did both!!

Vinted;

Vinted was the first app I downloaded as the icon was appealing to me and I had seen it advertised on other social media so knew a bit more about it.
This app is free!! Winning already!!

To sign up you can use your Facebook account or set up using an email. I chose to go through my Facebook as it took my information which saved me time entering it all.

Having a quick look round, it seemed super easy to navigate and the colour scheme was appealing.

The first thing I did was set up my feed. To do this you enter your clothing  and feet size(s) and in doing this the app sorts the posts on your feed to just the clothes and shoes in your size!!

On to the selling part. On your side bar you have an icon to 'sell', if you click this, the app will take you to your devices camera where you can take (I think) up to 5 images. You are then required to fill in some info on the item using the text boxes and options given (abit like Ebay but easier!!).

There is no charge for listing your items on Vinted however you do have to pay 15% of the selling price once the item sells. The buyer is responsible for paying the postage and packaging so you won't be out of pocket in any way shape or form.

Once your item(s) is posted, you sit back and wait.

Whilst waiting you may get people favouriting your items which is like watching an item on ebay or liking a photo on facebook and they can also follow you and you can follow them.

One thing you will more than likely get, is people asking to swap items for your items which is allowed on Vinted however you can refuse or make/accept offers.

After listing my items, I soon began to get a lot of likes and questions/comments on what I had listed!! I've found that the sooner you reply the better!!

It was only 2.5 hours after listing one of my items that someone bought it!! I was amazed at how quickly this happened!!

When somebody buys an item from you, you will get a notification to say they have bought and paid for it. However you DO NOT receive any of the money (including P&P) until the buyer receives the item. The money however is in the hands of Vinted so you WILL get it!!

Parcels must be sent using the Vinted instructions which you will receive in the notification (within 5 days).

The money is transferred into your Vinted bank after 3 days or when the buyer confirms that they have received the item. The money in you Vinted bank account can either be spent on the Vinted app buying new things to replenish your wardrobes or can be transferred to your personal bank account (50p charge to transfer).

You can mark any item as sold or withdraw it at anytime if you choose that you want to keep it or if something else comes up.

Don't get me wrong, there is some tat on this app, however there is a lot of great stuff!!

I personally LOVE this app!! Its so quick and easy to use and it works!!

Vinted also give all newbies £9 to spend within their first 4 days (Excluding P&P- Limited time only) so get signed up and have a browse.

No go get rummaging through your wardrobes. Heres the link: http://www.vinted.com/

Whilst you're there, why don't you check out what I have up for sale: http://www.vinted.co.uk/referral/592951?utm_content=item&utm_source=facebook-owned&utm_medium=share_action&utm_campaign=longterm_share

Depop;

Just for good measure,  I decided to download Depop too. The icon looked pretty cheap and tacky so I wasnt expecting a great deal from it but again, it was free to download so I cant complain!!

Depop wasn't as easy to navigate as Vinted and I wasn't the biggest fan of the very minimalistic black/grey/white colour scheme going on.

Selling your items is easy peasy again. On your navigation bar you can click on the 'sell' icon and either upload or take a photo on the device you are using (up to 4 I think).

You are then taken to a page to fill in some details about the item. Not half as many as Vinted and this app relies on hashtags which i'm not the biggest fan of.

Depop do not have set P&P prices so judge wisely and check on items that you are buying to ensure that you aren't ripping anybody off or being ripped off yourself!!

Listing you items is 100% free!! Meaning what you'll get more for your items than using Vinted who take a 15% cut.

Again, whilst you are waiting for sales, people can favourite your items and follow you. They can also make offers and request swaps on this app too.

When somebody buys and pays for an item you are selling, you will be paid straight into your paypal account. Paypal however do charge a small amount to move this money into your personal bank account.

I have had items on my Depop for a few days now and although I have had lots of favourites and follows, not one sale as yet.

All in all, I am a bigger fan of Vinted as I felt it was much easier to navigate and to search for what you were looking for, it also looked much more professional and appealing to me.
However if I was more money orientated when clearing out my clothes wardrobes/draws then Depop would definitely be the app for me as what I earn from my items, I keep.
Vinted definitely has a quicker sale rate however Depop may be quicker than I experienced for other people depending on what is being sold.

In this case of comparison, its all swings and round abouts. I think I'll stick with my sales over at Vinted.
