Here is yet another hair dye review... yes another!! I'm seriously considering changing the name of my blog to 'confessions of a hair dye junkie'... maybe not.
As most of you will know, I recently dyed my hair green but to my disappointment, my hair extensions were much greener than my natural hair. To resolve this I needed to add some blue tones to my extensions.
Schwarzkopf have always been a personal fave of mine and there are very few if any other brands that sell semi permanent alternative colour dyes on the high street.
I knew that Schwarzkopf did an electric blue colour in their Ultra Brights range and this is the dye I set out to purchase, however when I arrived at my local Boots, I noticed that there was a new colour added to the range called Turquoise Temptation which is closer to the tones that I needed to resolve my extension mare!! Brilliant!!
This dye is usually £5.49 in Boots but all colours in this range were on sale at £4.00. Bargain!!
Personally I think £5.49 is slightly too expensive for a 50ml tube of semi permanent dye as I'm so used to my usual brand being £2.50-£3 for a bigger 88ml pot.
Onto the nitty gritty. The box is Schwarzkopf's' usual bright colours and modern fonts and image design apart from the fact that its slightly smaller than the usual box size as it doesn't contain a number of tubes...not a lot to comment on.
Inside the box is, your 50ml tube of colourant in a squeeze tube, 2 sachets of caring shine conditioner and your instruction leaflet that includes a pair of gloves.
The gloves are a good size. I have pretty regular sized hands as a female and they're loose but men or people with larger hands may find they're a little more fitted.
The instructions are really easy to follow as they're very well set out with small diagrams.
Above is a image of what the actual dye looks like. As you can see, it looks very pale and quite pastel like. It's really thick!! If you're thinking of doing a full head, I would definitely recommend buying a couple of tubes and more if your hair is thicker and or longer than shoulder length.
When the dye is applied to the hair it goes much darker fairly quickly, however it looks very 'royal blue' rather than turquoise. Don't panic!!
The instructions say to leave this dye on for 20-30 minutes however as it is a veggie dye (no damaging chemicals), you can leave it in for as long as possible. I always choose to leave the dye on over night so the hair gets a good 8-10 hours to soak up the colour and I have found this makes the colour last much longer.
(To leave on over night, apply the dye, cover your hair in cling film and cover your pillows with old or dark coloured towels).
So as I mentioned before, I am using this dye to correct already green extensions so this review wouldn't be much use to anyone unless your hair is already green!! I have however used some of the dye on a patch of my spare platinum blonde extensions to show you lovely lot the results!!
After washing the dye out and using one sachet of the caring shine conditioner (2 is far too much for one application however use the second sachet for your following wash), I am pretty darn happy with the results of both my extensions and the patch of blonde extension.
Here is the before and after of the blonde extension;
The left side of the hair is the original colour of the extensions. As you can see, the colour is blue however I don't think I would describe it as turquoise and its definitely not the colour of the hair of the model on the box.
The blue colour is slightly pastel like with a greyish undertone. Not quite as bright and poppy as I'd hoped for but its still a really nice shade of blue.
The dye came out really even and makes the hair feel and looks soft, shiny and in great condition.
On this review I can't comment on how well this lasts throughout washes however from past experience of Ultra Brights dyes, they hold their colour for a good 6/7 washes before looking quite faded. Keep in mind that this is a semi permanent dye and will start to wash out fairly quickly, it will also last a range of different timings on the different individuals hair types.
I have however done the rub test on this hair!! On white walls and white clothing fabrics, there is a very slight transfer and this will obviously be more likely to happen for the first few washes. The dye does wash off surfaces and out of clothing/fabric really easily however you might find washing pale pillow cases happens a lot more regularly.
Overall I'm not the biggest fan of this dye. Its definitely not the colour on the box but it is a nice colour. The only real issue I had with the dye was how thick it was and how little you get in a tube for the fairly expensive price.
I wouldn't recommend this colour for anybody who wants the exact colour on the box, however if you're looking for something fairly similar and are prepared to go with it a little bit then this is a great dye.

Thank you so much for this review!I also don't like how thick the dye is. I didn't know that you can leave it overnight, so i will try that next time. You have helped me so much!
