So after multiple failed attempts at the whole orange hair thing, I have finally given up!!
As you all know, I'm an alternative hair colour fan so to achieve my next bright colour I needed to remove all the orange and make my hair white.
I have tried Colour B4 in the past and know from experience that it struggles to remove any red pigment in the hair so this time after reading the very few reviews I could find, I chose to opt for Scott Cornwall's Decolour Hair Stripper and Colour Restore.
I picked both of these products up at Boots as I haven't seen it in any other stores (it may be exclusive to Boots). The Hair Stripper was £12.99 and the Toner was £7.99 on offer (usually £12.99). Both products are slightly more expensive than similar products that were on Boots shelves but I would pay the same price a million times over for the results.
So as I stated before, my hair was neon orange and had been bleached to a orange shade before the neon dye was added.
The Decolour Hair Stripper is what I needed to start my process of achieving white hair.
Really really easy to use, mix 2 of the components and leave on the hair for 20-60 minutes depending on how dark your hair is to start with.
Mixing the 2 stripper components are slightly worrying. Its GREEN!! However unlike other decolourants I've used in the past, this one is really nice smelling; its slightly chemically but fresh and slightly fruity. The consistency is really thick and creamy so dripping wasn't an issue.
The only downside to this is that there is barely enough product to cover my very fine shoulder length hair which meant I had to cut the bottle open and remove every last drop of product. There is a step before rinsing that says you should use the remaining product to emulsify the product on your hair before rinsing which was impossible for me!! The results I don't think depend on this step so don't panic!!
The last part of stripping your hair with this product after rinsing is to use the conclude balm to remove all colour pigments and also to return your hair to a neutral PH level. It looks, feels and smells like shampoo.
The product I can say hand on heart hasn't damaged my hair in the slightest, despite me leaving it on for the longest recommended developing time. Winning!!
I didn't bother drying and straightening my hair to take photos of the results because I didn't have time and felt it would be extra damage to my hair as I needed to tone it the same day. My hair however was blonde, very blonde and this included my natural roots. The results were amazing, no patchiness, no remaining red tones (most strippers fail to remove red pigment) and blonde enough to apply a bright colour if needs be.
I however wanted to make sure the hair was as white as I could get it as the green dye I was going to apply is extremely bright and bold so I went on to use the Scott Cornwall Colour Restore Iced Platinum Toner.
The bottle contains 100ml of blue toner which is again, super easy to use.
Wash your hair first with your regular shampoo and then apply the toner in place of your conditioner.
I would recommend rubbing the toner in your hands first and to apply to hair as loosely as possible to avoid a blue stain in the spot that you've slapped it on. Not a good look. The instructions do say to use gloves, but you only get one pair in the box and the tube will last a good 3/4 applications.
This toner has definitely removed all remaining yellow tones from my hair and it is definitely platinum/white!! No photos needed.
I'm not going to do my final scores for these products because I can safely say that I can't fault them (apart from lack of product in the stripper). As I mentioned before, they are slightly more expensive than similar products on the market but I'd rather pay a little more for a product I know works than waste money playing the guessing game!!
