Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes Mascara - Review

Calling all fake eyelash addicts!!

I have been wearing fake eyelashes everyday (usually 2 pairs but I have been known to wear up to 4/5 pairs!!) without fail, even to the gym!! I have been wearing them for the past 5-6 years and I feel incredibly self conscious when I don't have them on.

I'd seen this "wonder 3D mascara" posted all over Instagram but I was gutted that it was only available to our friends across the pond.

Thankfully, Younique has launched over here in the UK as of the 1st Novemeber 2014 and I have been sent a Younique  Moodstruck 3D Fibre Lash Mascara from a lovely lady over at  www.redefineyourbeauty.com to review for you lovely lot!! (If you cant wait for November, you can order from Redefine Your Beauty however it will take a couple of weeks to reach you if you're here in the UK).

The mascara retails at US$29 and will retail here in the UK for £23 which is fairly expensive for a mascara considering one of the best mascaras here in the UK is just £3!! I know however that a lot of us girlies like to spend a little more on our mascara as eyelashes are very important to our makeup looks.

The mascara comes in 2 tubes; the first tube is the transplanting gel and the second is the fibres. These tubes come in a gorgeous black box. The box is almost like a smaller version of a sunglasses case. Inside this box is 2 loops to hold the tubes in place. Slightly unnecessary but I suppose it keeps them together in the same place.

The transplanting gel comes in a regular size mascara tube with a fairly regular mascara wand...which you apply like a regular mascara!! This gel acts as a glue and a sealer for the fibres.

Said fibres come in your second tube. This tube is slightly smaller and has a strange looking wand...its furry!! Of course these little pieces of fur are actually the 3D fibres which will make your lashes appear longer!! The fibres are made from 100% natural green tea fibres.

How to apply:

To apply the mascara, you are advised to apply a coat of your regular mascara to create a bold black base.
Before this completely dries, apply a good coat of your transplanting gel to the lashes as you would a regular mascara, but make sure that the outer corners of your lashes and the tips of the lashes have a good amount of gel applied.
Again, before this dries, apply the fibres in the same motion as you would with any other mascara; focus on the whole lash and then ensure that you have fibres on the tips as this is what will give you the length.
Repeat the gel and fibre steps as many times as you feel is appropriate and then seal all the fibres in place with a final coat of gel!!

To get your eyelashes that extra bit longer, use a hairdryer on the lowest heat setting to push your lashes up and blow away any stray fibres!! Do this after each coat of transplanting gel (not your first coat!!).

I personally use a coat of waterproof mascara over the top as this mascara (although it holds very well with moisture) isn't waterproof.

As you can see from the above steps, this mascara is no extra hassle than using a regular mascara, you just have 2 things to layer on.

Removing the mascara is a little more effort than a regular mascara. I have found that I was having to use a separate wipe for each eye!! Each of these wipes became black with product. Its quite stubborn to remove with wipes and I found that I was pulling my eye area too harshly whilst removing, so I switched to an eye makeup remover on a cotton pad which was so much easier and gentler. It does come off your lashes in clumps and you'll look like a bit of a panda for part of the removal!!

Onto the results.

At first I wasn't very impressed. Its fairly hard to judge how much of the 2 products you need to apply at a time. If you apply too many fibres you end up with some on your cheeks and in your eyes (which isn't painful but isn't comfortable) during the day and if you use too little it doesn't make your lashes look thick enough or long enough. Once I'd heard about  the hairdryer trick, this sorted the falling fibres problem!!
If you don't use enough or too little of the gel, your lashes look slightly clumpy and furry. Not a good look. I have found that by using the mascara, you can get used to the amount you need and practice really does make perfect in this case. If you're finding the lashes look a bit fuzzy/furry,I find appling the sealing layer thickly sorts this problem out.

However once you've sussed these bits out, you'll love it!!

My eyelashes are so much longer when wearing this mascara. I can't remember how many people have commented on my lashes!!

Left: No mascara. Right: 2 Layers of Younique Moodstruck 3D Fibre Lash Mascara.

I have braved up on a number of days and ditched the fake lashes. I do still feel self conscious, but nowhere near as much as I would if I had only got my regular mascara on.

I feel that I look much more natural despite the lashes not being quite 100% natural and people have commented on how much better I look.

Overall I love this product, despite it taking a few attempts to get it just right. The price I thought was slightly on the expensive side, though now I've used it I would definitely pay for another in the future. For the amount of money us lash addicts spend on fakies anyway this is a bargain considering I can go through 5.6 pairs of £8 lashes a month!!

For the amount of confidence this mascara has injected back into myself I would definitely recommend it for not only you lash addicts, but those who love their lashes on the long side of the spectrum!! #nofakies!!
