Tips for selling on Vinted

I am the biggest fan of Vinted.

If you don't know what Vinted is, in short its an app that you can sell your clothes on!! I've made £160+ by selling about 15 things within a matter of weeks.

Here are my tips to make your selling experience so much more successful.

Watch your pricing

The thing is, you have to accept that unless your items are brand new, designer or no longer available but were limited addition at the time, you're not going to sell for anywhere near the retail price.

Why?? Well, if its still in the shops, people are more likely to go into the store and pay the price for the item that they have been able to try on and know how its been treated. They also wont have to pay the post and packaging on top of the retail price.
If your items are second hand people do not want to pay what you paid for it unless they are desperate for that specific item. Most of us on there are after a good bargain.

Avoid useless information

Keep your descriptions short but informative. Size, brand, description of fit, description of colours, interesting features and any damage will do. Nobody wants to read an essay to find out if there's any damage.

You can hashtag on Vinted but again keep them relevant and don't go too OTT.

Don't attempt to make money through P&P

Vinted have cleverly designed the app to make it fairer for buyers when paying for postage. However there are still 3 different options, small, medium or large.
If you are charging P&P for a large item (a coat or a pair of heavy boots) to send lets say a vest top which should be listed as a small item, people are less likely to pay the extra £££ to get it sent as they feel they're being ripped off.

It is fairly easy to judge which size postage you should be selecting. If you are completely clueless, pop down to your local Post Office with the item and they'll inform you of which option to chose.

Proof read your post

Once you've entered all your information, go back and check it all. The blame will fall back on you if you've listed the size of an item wrong and somebody has bought it.

Also double check that your photos are in focus and that you have photographed the item in the best possible way. Include photos of any damage on the item and its unique features.

Customer service

Treat Vinted as if it were your own shop; after all these people are your customers.
Be polite. Please and thank you's go a long way!!

Stay active

Keep an eye on your Vinted notifications. The quicker you respond to a potential customer, the more likely they are to purchase your item. If you make them wait, they could be browsing other peoples goodies and decide to spend their money on other things.

Don't pester sellers/customers

My biggest pet hate on Vinted is people constantly messaging me to swap or messaging me every other day to see if I'm interested in buying their item that I added to my favourites.

Before directly messaging the seller or commenting on the item, look at the comments previously. If the seller states that they are not open to swaps, you might want to forget asking.

If you contact a seller to haggle at the price of what you have your eye on, remember to be polite and if the seller says no, it's probably going to be a no the second and third time you ask them.

Stick to your word

If as a buyer or seller you make an agreement with another Vintie, you should most definitely stick to your word.

Time after time I have been asked to reserve items for when the person gets paid. I of course put my trust in these people and reserve items so others can't buy them but it seems that 90% of the time the Vintie who said they'd purchase the item, let me down.

Respect the app

Vinted is one of the best selling apps for clothes that I have come across and the bonus is that its free!! However a lot of users seem to be making arrangements to sell their items using PayPal (which the app doesn't support) to avoid paying Vinted the 15% of your earnings.

I can understand why people do this because if you're selling things inexpensively 15% is a fair bit to lose but if you abuse the app then it'll soon be gone!!

A lot of hard work, time and effort has gone into making, running and constantly improving the app for our benefit. I for one would hate to see it disappear because of people abusing the way it runs.

I hope these tips help a few if not all of you that are struggling to shift some of your unused clothes, shoes and accessories.

If you have any other helpful tips, do let me know and i'll add them to this list!!
