Getting into the Christmas spirit

Christmas is soon approaching but this year I'd been lacking in spirit.

At first I thought it was because of the weather. Up until 2/3 weeks ago it had been fairly mild here in the UK and I think we've only had a handful of frosty mornings this season so far!! It's far more Christmasy feeling when the temperature plummets!!
Christmas shopping felt like an absolute chore this year. Due to changing jobs I've found that I've had to really budget and hunt for the best prices which took the joy out of things.
But maybe its just the fact that I've grown up a lot over the past few years and Christmas will never be as exciting as when I was a child.

Who knows!? Anyway, here is some of the bits and bobs that are helping me feel a little more Christmasy!!

Nails:

Most of you know that I am obsessed with Models Own nail varnishes and have racked up a huge 130+ of them over the past couple of years!!

Painting my nails in a Christmasy theme has lifted my Christmas spirit no end!!
Not your traditional colours I know. My favourite Models Own traditional Christmas colours are Ebony Green and Marquise Maroon.

Me time:

There is nothing I love more around this year than taking some time out to look after myself.

I suffer from a mental condition which is greatly effected by the lack of sunlight I get. To help this I like to get my SAD lamp out and spend time doing things I love whilst soaking up its rays.

As I've mentioned above, doing my nails is one of my favourite things to do to make myself a bit cheerier!!

Long baths with Radox bubbles and a Yanee candle burning is bliss... its even more heavenly if I have a Lush bath bomb so I definitely stock up during December. In the Christmas period, Lush do seasonal bath bombs which are super cute, make my skin incredibly soft and smell good enough to eat.

I enjoy reading much more during the colder months; I suppose its because going out and socialising in the cold weather isn't very fun!!

CHRISTMAS FILMS!!!! Need I say anymore?? They're so 'feel good'. My faves are The Grinch and Elf!!

Christmas songs aren't my favourite. However I love the vibes of Christmas period songs. I ditch the upbeat, mainstream, summer tunes for something more chilled out and 'wintery sounding'.

Around this festive period I find that due to the stress of everything I need to ground myself a lot more than throughout the rest of the year. I love to meditate whilst burning incense and lighting candles.

Putting the Christmas decorations up:

Putting the decorations up seemed like a big deal this year. My mom always used to be 'in charge' of tree decorating but of course that won't be the case anymore. My family have never really been interested in taking part in putting up the decorations and I truly believe that if I didn't then we'd have none at all.

I decided to get the tree, lights and decorations out and put it all up myself whilst everyone was out either at work or school.

I stuck on a music channel on the TV and as expected it was all Christmas songs. I'm far from the biggest fan of Christmas songs, however it really helped get me in the mood for Christmas.

I convinced my stepdad to get some new outdoor lights as our street was starting to look like the Blackpool illuminations. In the end we just got a few small lights but they look super cute and make the house look much more festive!!

Baking:

Baking is one of the things I used to love doing when I was a child but due to available time I've been unable to bake properly for the past couple of years.

Since I've had a few weeks off work during the transition of jobs I've spent some of my free time baking!!

My favourite thing to make this season has been Gingerbread people!! It took a while to get the hang of it but in the end I'd made 42 successful Gingerbread girls, boys, men and women!! You can read my Gingerbread recipe here.

Another treat that I made was Ferrero Roche Brownies!! These are to die for however its a teeny bit more difficult than making your average cake for those baking newbies like myself. You can read my Ferrero Roche Brownie recipe here.

Mary Berry, eat your heart out!!

Maybe try some of these things for yourself if you're struggling this year. Let me know how you get into the Christmas spirit!!
