Tan Eraser - Review

I have kindly been sent a Tan Eraser to trial and review for all you bronze addicts!!

If like me, you hate feeling like the 'Pale Gail' during the winter months...and even the summer here in the UK, chances are you've applied some form of fake tan.

Those who have tried fake tans will know that when it goes wrong, it goes very wrong. We get streaks/runs/blotchiness which isn't a good look and half of the time we don't realise unless the tan is an instant tan. Don't even get me started on the blotchy/patchiness when the tan is due a top up. Urgh!!
Removing tanning products isn't easy especially if its long lasting and already developed!!

The Tan Eraser claims to remove fake tan (whether its a self tan or a professional tan) by gently exfoliating the skin which leaves your skin silky soft and prepped for your next tanning session.

This product retails at £6 and is available for UK delivery at £1.95 and international delivery at £3.95.

The Tan Eraser comes in a thin plastic cellophane type packaging which holds the Tan Eraser and a small insert which includes your instructions.

Pink and black is the only colour this Tan Eraser mitt is available in and I love it!! Super girly and looks incredibly bold, sleek and professional. The material feels high quality and the stitching is very neat and secure. The elasticated cuff provides a good grip and isn't too tight that it cuts off circulation and isn't too loose that the mitt comes off.

So, here's how to use it:

1. Shower/bathe and cleanse your body as normal ensuring you rinse soap away thoroughly.
2. Wet the Tan Eraser mitt under the shower and squeeze out any excess water.
3. Standing away from the shower, or outside of the bath water, use the pink side to rub the skin to gently exfoliate and remove the old spray tan. Apply extra pressure or use the black side for stronger exfoliation.
4. Rinse your body and the Tan Eraser making sure all remaining tan has been removed.

Tahh dahh!! Perfectly tan free skin?? Here are the results:

I have decided to tan just one leg to show the results. As you'll see, I have used a much darker shade than my natural skin tone to see if this product can remove some of the darkest shades. The tan I used develops in 6-8 hours and is supposed to last 2-3 weeks!!

These images below are of the freshly applied and developed tan. You can see the dramatic difference in the colour on each leg (left is natural and right is a medium spray tan). I woke up and prayed that this product would remove all the tan; I was going to the gym later that day and didn't have the developing time to do the other leg!!

I soaked my skin in the bath for 10-15 minutes and then followed Tan Eraser's instructions. Starting with the pink side, I exfoliated with quite a lot of pressure and the tan was fading (hoorahh!!) however it was still present on my legs. The black side of the mitt removed the majority of colour however it did need more pressure in some areas as it wasn't coming off evenly. I'm not going to lie, it isn't the easiest process, it takes elbow grease!! It also doesn't feel too great; my legs felt like they were covered in carpet burns however I'm putting this stinging/burning down to the fact that I have sensitive skin.

After I had removed all the tan possible without taking off layers of skin/making my legs bleed, I left my legs to dry and recover as they were extremely red. Within half an hour, my legs had recovered and here is the result;

As you can see, there is a small amount of tan on my legs, however the Tan Eraser has done a brilliant job at removing the vast majority of the product especially in areas which hold the colour such as the knee and ankle area. The mitt has exfoliated my legs so they are silky soft and prepped for a new tan.

It is important to wash your mitt properly after each use to remove all skin residue. I have put my mitt through the washing machine with no problem; the quality is as good as new and there has been no fading of colours or colour runs.

Before using this product I was sceptical. In the past I had tried other exfoliating gloves to remove tan and they've not done a very good job. I would imagine that by the time any of you need to remove a tan the Tan Eraser will remove it fully as the layers of skin coloured by the tan will be 'dead' and easier to remove. This product is so much better than anything I've tried before however it does irritate the skin whilst exfoliating which is probably the only down side. Definitely worth getting your mitts on one if you're a tan addict.

  1. Hi Faye,

Thanks for the review. Just a quick comment to say that you are absolutely right, a tan that is a few days old is much easier to remove than a freshly developed one. (and won't need as much elbow grease).

Let us know how you get on if you get a chance to test this out for yourself.

    Thanks again!

    Jamie
