One of my goals for 2015 is to become happier. We are all looking for the road to happiness right?? Sometimes its a long process which takes little things to start building up your happiness gradually.
I decided to start a gratitude diary/journal and chose this The Happiness Project 5 Year Journal by Gretchen Rubin from Amazon.
The Journal cost me just £10.49 (RRP $16.99) which I thought was a great price for a diary/journal that would last me 5 years!! You can view this Journal on Amazon here.
The diary arrived the first week of February which meant that I had lost out on all of January, but not to worry, the journal allows you to fill in the year which means next year you won't have gaps.
The cover of the book is incredibly sturdy... it needs to be if its going to last 5 years of being shoved into handbags and handled daily. The colours are beautiful, though I would say that as a blue and yellow combo is my all time favourite!! It is very minimal and timeless, I love the blue bird detailing which symbolises happiness and free spirit.
The only downside to the cover is the back cover. Instead of having the blurb/information printed onto the cover, it has been printed onto a large white sticker which is impossible to remove without leaving scraps of the sticker or the horrible sticky goo that they leave behind.
The edges of the diary pages are yellow which is a lovely touch. I feel that white picks up a lot of dirt and as this diary is designed to last 5 years a colour is better option to hide the scuffs, stains and finger prints picked up along the way.
Inside the book is an opening page for you to write your name (just in case!!) followed by 365 pages of simplistic writing space. Each day has an uplifting, motivating quote which are equally lovely to reflect on whether it be first thing in the morning or last thing at night.
The writing space is adequate for writers with average size handwriting to write a short sentence or two to sum up the day. The space is lined and as I said above, there is space to fill in the year yourself.
This diary also comes with a fitted ribbon bookmark in a coordinating blue colour which I love as it'll save time finding the date I am on.
I personally feel that this diary should be used for positive and happy content. I tend to write about the good things that have happened that day. If I've had a real crumby day, I write things that I have accomplished that day, it could be as simple as 'I completed the huge ironing pile'. If I feel I haven't had a great day or accomplished anything, I like to make a list of things I like about myself that day such as 'my skin is clearer today' or 'I have lost 2lbs since Friday'.
As I have been writing into my diary I have often thought it is very much like the app Timehop only its personal words that I probably wouldn't share to the world via social media!!
Overall I love this diary/journal and I am so glad I have bought it!! Over time, I will be looking back on what I have written and hopefully realise that the world isn't as dark and unhappy as I physically see it. My only downfall is the sticker on the back!!
Definitely worth the money that I paid for it and I can definitely see this improving my happiness even if it is only a very miniscule improvement.
