Brainwavz - S1 Headphone - Review

I cannot manage to go anywhere or do anything without having music playing. Unfortunately this means my headphones get a good bashing when in my handbag and don't last me as long as I'd hope them to last.

I have been sent these Brainwavz S1 headphones to trial and review.

These headphones are available from Amazon and retail at $54 or £37 which I felt was a brilliant price considering I'm used to spending near £100 on a single pair of headphones. You can get yours here.

I love the packaging for these headphones; its like a book with a window to see the product inside. I prefer this packaging over others as you can actually see the headphones in the store before buying.

Inside the box you receive the headphones, a hard case for storage (I love these for on the go!), a huge selection of earbits including a memory foam pair which are amazing for blocking out sound and are super comfy, a airplane adapter (although most planes have the standard fittings these days!) and then your instructions and warrantee.
The headphones themselves are gunmetal grey and a deep mauve colour which I feel is attempting to be "uni sex" but may appeal to more women than men. I personally like the colour scheme however it feels a little dated.

These particular Brain Wavz headphones are designed to go in the ear and the cable is to go over the top of your ears. The only issue with this is that when I am running, they fall from behind my ears because they're not structured to fit securely on the ear. This isn't a biggie as they're just as comfortable to wear them as you would with standard headphones.

It took me a while to figure out which headphone went in which ear. The L and R print is teeny tiny and is the same colour as the plastic its embossed onto.

The cord/cable for these headphones is the flat type which aims to prevent tangling. It works to a certain extent, however I doubt anybody will ever invent a cable that is tangle proof.
These headphones have no controls. I feel that for this day and age, headphones where you can adjust volume and switch tracks is a must. This means I have to take my device out of my pocket, unlock, switch tracks/volume, lock device and put it back in my pocket which although it doesn't waste a lot of time, its off putting and effects my performance whilst at the gym or on a run.
The plug fitting that connects to your device is huge!! I personally don't like the look of it however I'm a fan of its angled shape as it prevents the connection breakage within the wiring over a period of time.
On to the performance. The first thing I noticed when plugging these headphones into my phone was that I had to play around with the plug fitting to get it into a certain position as the right side didn't work unless I did so. If I knocked the cable at all, I was having to deal with my music/YouTube videos pausing and unpausing. Not a great start.

Sound quality is really good. I would actually say that it is better than my Beats which were 3x as expensive. I didn't notice any crackling or humming noises when I was listening to my media.
These headphones are great for amplifying volume. I like my music loud and with these I didn't have to turn the volume right up to get the desired volume.
If you're a bass kind of person, these will be right up your street. Its ace, far better than any headphones I have used in the past.

Overall, I like these headphones (provided they work in the first place) but I am not overly impressed. Not sure if the issue I've had with the connection was just with my pair or whether its poor quality across the board. The price is affordable, and the sound quality is great; I do wish they were a bit more 'with the times' in terms of controls and aesthetics.
