As most of my readers know, I have a fury friend who is my lovely little Cockapoo. Thought I'd do the Fury Friend Tag to let you all know a little more about my bundle of fluff.
Jim. Often called Pooka, Jimmoth or Jimmouth.
When did you get Jim?
In September 2012 when Jim was just 8 weeks old!!
Jim when he was a teeny pup.
What is something that Jim does that annoys you?
Jim is an annoying pappy. He's incredibly intelligent yet likes to play stupid. The one thing he does that annoys me most is explore my bedroom with the use of his mouth. No end of times have I turned my back for 2 seconds and the contents of my bin are nicely sprawled across my bedroom floor or my nice new eye shadow palette now has dog teeth marks in it!!
What type of breed is Jim?
Jim is a Cockapoo which is a Toy Poodle crossed with a Cocker Spaniel. He's definitely more spaniel; looks, behaviour and intelligence wise... in fact I think the only thing Poodle about him is his curly hair!!
Has Jim ever had a near death experience?
Not that I'm aware of. I remember walking Jim with my aunty and he jumped into a river for the first time... fortunately he had his swimming instincts by this time however I did panic for a few seconds!! The water was freezing as it was mid winter time, he very quickly shot out.
Does Jim know any tricks?
No. We house trained Jim fairly quickly and he sits on command. Anything else is a waste of time. He's capable of following commands but chooses not to; I think the word 'stubborn' sums him up quite well.
Does Jim like to snuggle?
Jim is the neediest dog I have ever known. He loves snuggling more than anything. After work he follows me up to my room where we lie on my bed and spoon (yes literally spoon) for half an hour. If you ease up on the attention giving, Jim huffs and sighs before pawing you or snoofing his head under your arm for cuddles!!
Where did you get Jim?
We got Jim from a farmer somewhere in Derbyshire. We'd heard of this breeder through our Uncle who had recently bought his dog from the same person. Our dogs are actually half brothers, sharing the same father. We had the choice of 2 puppies, Jim and Dolly; we'd toyed with getting both but with mom so ill at the time, we just bought the one. We allowed the dogs to choose us rather than us choose the dog; Jim was quickly out of the cage and running in and around our feet whereas Dolly stayed in the cage and seemed disinterested. Jim was definitely the right dog for us and it was almost as if he knew that himself.
Jim and his big brother Ted.
Does Jim get along with other dogs?
Yes. He has a huge friend group who have their walks on the park at the same time as Jim. Its meant that my stepdad has made a new friend group as well!!
Does Jim get along with strangers?
Jim loves people... once he knows they're not a threat. Jim would never attack anybody; he's all bark and no bite. He seems to bark only at men who enter our house but after a couple of minutes he backs off and goes back to what he was doing.
How much does he weigh?
I have no idea. He was a couple of kilos overweight when he went for his annual check up at the vets last year. He's definitely not fat. We feed him right amounts and he gets plenty of exercise.
Do you ever dress Jim up?
Yes, much to the disapproval of my stepdad. Jim has reindeer antlers, and a Christmas pudding costume for Christmas time, a Dracula cape for Halloween and a coat for colder weather. None of which he enjoys wearing so he attempts to tear it off almost immediately.
Has Jim ever tried to run away?
I'm not sure he was trying to run away, but I'd left the garden gate open when I was cleaning my car one time and although Jim had tried a number of times to come and join me, he was told to stay in the garden. An hour or so later, Jim snook past me and took himself on a walk. My stepdad quickly ran down to the park but came back empty handed. After about 20 minutes Jim came happily strolling around the corner as if it was a normal thing for a dog to do.
How did you come up with his name?
Jim was already named when we went to buy him. We'd had lists of names that were causing arguments between my siblings and I so mom decided he was keeping the name he'd already been given. I'm so glad we did. Its not often you hear of another dog called Jim. I like how un-generic it is and it really does suit him.
On a scale of 1-10 how much does Jim mean to you?
I don't think there is a scale. In some ways Jim has saved my life. He's like a baby who is full of unconditional love to give out. He's always there to listen to me when I need to get things off my chest (people think I'm a nutter talking to my dog) and he's always up for a good cuddle after a long hard day at work.
