We got Engaged!!

Big news guys!! As you probably already know from the title of this post, I'M GETTING MARRIED!!

Sometime within the next year and a half I will be a Mrs ... although we're not 100% decided on which surname I'll be taking just yet.

Jack proposed on Valentine's day this year (he's a walking cliche I know) but i wanted to keep it quiet for a while until our family and friends were in the know.

We'd been over to my Nana's in the morning to drop off some birthday bits for her and for her to meet our new addition to the family (the dog), then headed out to a very muddy park to let the doggo have a run around.

Once we'd gotten back to the flat, the parcel containing the ring was waiting for him. As it was valentines day and he'd already had his present, I was badgering for mine (little did I know what it was).

At the time, I was food prepping for work the next day, covered in mud and trying to warm up when he popped around the door and pretended that he'd seen something on the floor. The next thing I knew, he'd got a ring in his hands and was asking me to marry him.

Obviously I said yes.

So the wedding planning begins.

We've both always said that if we were to get married, we'd want as little attention as possible and that we wanted a 'marriage and not a wedding'; but something switches on once that ring is placed on your finger. I am now OBSESSED with all things wedding. Pintrest is the devil for giving me a tonne of ideas and making me consider a future career in wedding planning. The hours I have spent scrolling through the app over the past few weeks, looking for wedding ideas is scary.

There are so many things to think about and organise. I now understand why so many people spend 3 years planning and counting down to their wedding day!!

I think after around 4 weeks we'd decided on a colour scheme although this could change depending on what dates are available for us to marry... you've got to be seasonal themed right!?

For the first couple of weeks, I was looking at long dresses that weren't white, as I thought I didn't want a wedding dress. Now that we've agreed we'll make the day a bit more than just the marriage, I think i'd be disappointed in anything other than a wedding dress.

I honestly cannot get over the cost of a wedding. Making a budget list and setting savings goals when you're clueless is near enough impossible.

Mention a wedding to any venue and the prices seem to rocket. We've been quoted anywhere between around £6,000 to £15,000 for a wedding breakfast with our immediate families (around 20) and a reception with 'party food' in the evening for around 60-80 guests. Absurd amount of money.
All we want is a room in a venue that serves food for the afternoon and then transforms into an open space for dancing in the evening; were not asking for much!

The plan at the moment is to do the important stuff (the actual marriage) at one of our local register offices; just the two of us with our two witnesses. What happens after that depends on what we can find for what we can afford. Maybe we will be having that 'Marriage not a Wedding' after all.

I'm going to leave this post as it is but i'll no doubt be back very soon with some posts about weddings and wedding planning!!

So if you're wondering why i'm a tad quiet on the blog for the next few months, it'll be because I'm wasting all my spare time on Pintrest, Etsy and various other wedding planning apps and websites.
